Personalized Precision Healthcare at Florida Theranostics

In Jupiter, Florida, a new vision for cancer and Alzheimer's detection and care has taken shape. Florida Theranostics is redefining how precision imaging and radiopharmaceutical therapy come together to guide confident, personalized cancer treatment decisions.

A Vision for Patient-Focused Precision

A vision for patient-focused precision was founded by Dr. Ashok MuthuKrishnan aka Dr. Krishnan, a nuclear medicine physician, formerly at UPMC. Florida Theranostics opened in 2022 to close the gap in the local access to deliver academic level expertise in a community setting, bringing next-generation molecular imaging and therapy to patients in South Florida.

"Therapy is a commitment," says Dr. Krishnan. "Clarity makes that commitment confident. Theranostics is clearly changing cancer care by helping us both find and treat tumors using the same tool. First, we scan this cancer as a specific target. And once we find that target, we can deliver direct tumor radiation to that site. By using this technique, we are personalizing medicine and cancer therapy for these patients."

Clarity Through Technology and Integration

That clarity begins with technology. Equipped with the uMI™ Panorama from United Imaging offering 2.9 mm NEMA resolution, 189 ps timing resolution, and high effective sensitivity, clarity is more than a single specification. The uMI Panorama offers exceptional detail and accuracy, empowering confidence when making therapy decisions.

"One of the biggest advantages of the uMI Panorama is its exquisite sensitivity in picking up small lesions. But also, it can image patients with a much lower radiation dosage and at a very fast speed, never seen before and with the highest resolution in the market. That's a game changer. So, this enables patients like pediatric patients, for example, to have a fast scan and with a low radiation exposure that gives us a superior advantage for conventional scanners," said Dr. Krishnan.

Florida Theranostics integrates diagnostic imaging and targeted therapies all within one center. This "one-roof" model shortens care timelines, reduces patient stress, and ensures that every therapy decision is informed by the most precise imaging available.

"When imaging and therapy are connected," Dr. Krishnan explains, "we can tailor treatment to each patient's biology in real time. That's the future of oncology and it's happening here."

Expanding Access to Life-Changing Care

Located in Palm Beach County, home to one of Florida's fastest growing and oldest populations, Florida Theranostics fills a critical need. The center also specializes in detection of amyloid plaques in the brain, which is a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease.  "With this information from the scan, we can also compute centiloid scores for each patient that allows us to quantify the amount of the amyloid disease that's present, which can both confirm the diagnosis and also differentiate Alzheimer's from other types of dementias, and also guide treatment decisions and monitor disease progression over time," explains Dr. Krishnan.

By offering both diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceutical services locally, the center is expanding access to life-changing care for patients who previously had to travel out of state for these options. "My favorite thing about the uMI Panorama is definitely the AI camera. It leaves no question when I'm positioning patients, so it allows me to get the patient in and out a lot faster. For somebody new to the PET/CT world, it gives me a lot of confidence in my skills as a technologist. If I were to summarize United Imaging it would be cutting-edge, efficient, and collaborative," said Jordan Garcia, Lead Nuclear Medicine, Technologist.

The uMI Panorama empowers care and has become the decision engine of Florida Theranostics from patient selection to treatment monitoring. For Dr. Krishnan and his team, technology is only part of the story. The collaboration with United Imaging has been defined by shared purpose and responsiveness. "From installation to training, United Imaging has been with us every step," says Anna Shawley, MBA, Business Development Manager. "In working with United Imaging, we don't see them as a vendor we see them as a partner. Bringing this technology to a community-based practice, we are helping facilitate cutting-edge care locally."

Decisive Imaging for Confident Therapy Decisions

At Florida Theranostics, every patient represents a moment of decision; one that demands precision, compassion, and confidence. With the uMI Panorama at the heart of its workflow, the center is delivering on its promise: Decisive imaging for confident therapy decisions.
